Il Regno del Cinema

OVERVIEW

This project is a UX/UI redesign concept for the mobile application of Il Regno del Cinema, a cinema chain based in Lombardy with multiple venues between Brescia and Milan. The redesign originates from direct user experience with the existing service, which presented an outdated interface and a ticket-purchasing flow that was fragmented and difficult to navigate.

The project aims to modernize the digital service according to contemporary UX and UI practices, simplifying the advance ticket purchase process and improving overall usability. Alongside functional improvements, the redesign introduces a lightweight gamification layer connected to the collection of digital tickets and short-term achievement goals, extending the experience beyond the transaction itself.

About the project

The redesign focuses on restructuring the ticket purchase journey to make it more transparent, linear, and predictable. In the previous version of the service, buying tickets in advance required multiple unclear steps and poorly organized screens, increasing cognitive load and friction. The proposed solution reorganizes the flow into a clearer sequence of actions, reducing ambiguity and supporting faster decision-making.

The interface system is rebuilt using contemporary mobile UI patterns, with attention to hierarchy, navigation clarity, and action visibility. Core sections such as film browsing, search, and user profile are organized to support both quick access and exploratory navigation, allowing users to move efficiently from discovery to purchase.

To complement the transactional aspect, the project introduces a simple gamification mechanism based on the collection of digital ticket artifacts and the completion of short-term viewing goals. Users can unlock badges and track their achievements within their profile area, adding a motivational and collectible dimension to cinema attendance without interfering with the primary booking flow.

The home screen uses a responsive content system that adapts to user selections. Through the highlighted chips, users can set their preferred date and cinema location, and the underlying content—such as featured film carousels, event highlights, and the current screening list—updates accordingly.

Ticket purchasing is designed as a fast and intuitive primary action. Users first access the film detail page, then confirm cinema, date, time, and seats within a unified selection screen that keeps the full booking process clear and continuous.

Purchased tickets appear on the home screen, highlighted on the selected day within the date selector. After validation at the cinema, the barcode is removed and the ticket is automatically stored in the personal ticket collection available in the user profile.

A dedicated film search section allows users to find titles beyond the current weekly schedule, supporting broader discovery and future planning.

The profile section centralizes user data and hosts the two gamification systems: badge missions tied to short-term viewing goals and the digital ticket collection. It also includes a personal statistics area that summarizes viewing habits and activity.
